The Belmont Hotel Guest Insights

Guests appreciate the hotel’s unique historic charm and prime waterfront location, balanced by some practical limitations regarding amenities and noise. This makes it an appealing choice for visitors seeking comfort and atmosphere over full-service facilities.

Guests often praise

  • Elegant Victorian-inspired decor with exposed brick and rich furnishings creating a cozy and distinctive atmosphere.
  • Outstanding waterfront views, including sunrise scenery and wildlife sightings from private balconies.
  • Convenient location within walking distance of downtown shops, restaurants, and the Port Townsend Ferry Terminal.
  • Cleanliness and attention to detail in room preparation, including comfortable beds and thoughtful touches like quality linens and robes.
  • Friendly and attentive service, with efficient self check-in and responsive staff.

Worth knowing

  • The hotel lacks many amenities such as air conditioning, breakfast, restaurant, pool, and fitness facilities.
  • Thin walls can result in noise disturbances from neighbors, especially at night.
  • Parking is not on-site but rather via a park and ride some distance away; street parking is often necessary.
  • Rooms are accessed by stairs and include shared common spaces and balconies with minimal separation.
  • The food options on-site have mixed reviews and are limited; some guests enjoy the house-made cheesecake and crab cakes, while bread quality has been noted as below par.

Best for

  • Travelers wanting a historic, character-filled boutique stay with scenic waterfront views.
  • Visitors keen on exploring Port Townsend’s downtown, local shops, and nearby state parks on foot.
  • Guests who prioritize atmosphere, location, and service over modern hotel amenities.
  • Couples and small families seeking a quiet, charming place to relax and enjoy nature and local culture.

Its Victorian-inspired decor complements the building’s original character, with rooms featuring tall ceilings, exposed brick walls, and wood accents. Some rooms include balconies offering views of the water, where wildlife sightings have been noted by guests.

The property offers basic amenities including free Wi-Fi, free parking, and is both pet- and kid-friendly. However, it does not have air conditioning, a pool, restaurant, fitness center, or airport shuttle. Check-in is from 16:00 with checkout by 11:00. Super cool. The photos on their website and the description "Over a Victorian saloon" don't adequately capture how neat this place is. Our room bordered on plush, with tall ceilings and rich furnishings. This easily ranks among the best hotels we've stayed in both in terms of its unique concept and comfort.

Absolutely loved our room and the exposed brick wall. Everything was sparkling clean. We had an issue with the hot water and the service was prompt and courteous. Dinner was good, but not stellar, but their house made cheesecake was absolutely decadent. Would love it if this place had a deeper tub and better menu, but overall, our experience was lovely and we plan to come back and stay again.

Amenities are lacking, but the location is perfect. The sunrise on the deck is epic. In the heart of downtown. Be prepared to walk up 2 flights of stairs. Walls are very thin, could hear our neighbor passing gas...

Dinner here tonight was exceptional! Service was fantastic, prompt, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Food was first rate! The dungeness crab cakes are hand made fresh. Eric and Sumiko were very prompt, attentive and knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The manager recognized me when I came back a week later, and welcomed me back. I can't recommend the Belmont highly enough!

There is a lot to love about the Belmont Hotel (Room 203) and only a few downsides. Positives: • The Balcony! If you’re the type of person who likes to get up early and enjoy a beautiful view while having your coffee, this is the place for you. We saw deer, raccoons, sea otters and a gray whale from our balcony during our two day stay. • Location. You can’t beat it. There’s something really satisfying about spending a few hours exploring downtown Port Townsend and then having your private room so close when you need a break from the crowds or want to drop something off. • The Room. The wood and brick is beautiful. Previous guests over the years have left little notes and wishes in the brick wall, we enjoyed reading a few before putting them back. The bed is very soft. Super high ceiling with a loft thats perfect for a kid. It was wonderful having the tall glass doors open and listening to the waves. •Check-in process. Super simple via text. • They have little umbrellas at the front door you can borrow. Downsides. • The Price. If you’re not going to spend a lot of time in your room or the downtown area, I feel that this option is cost prohibitive. • Thin Walls. On the first night our neighbors came home at 2:00 a.m. in a very merry mood and were unafraid of letting the whole world know. We were lucky to be alone the second day/night. • Shared spaces. When you come up the staircase there is a common hallway/sunroom that connects all four units. The historical photos are nice but it feels a bit stuffy. The balcony is shared with the neighboring unit, with only a small moveable wooden barrier in between. •Parking. The website says there’s free parking for one vehicle. What they’re referring to is a park and ride about a mile away that you can take a shuttle from. Luckily there’s a lot of street parking you can find nearby. •Robes. It’s nice that these are offered but if you’re above a side medium, they’re too dang small. Overall, a fantastic and memorable experience that helped make our getaway special. We’ll be back.

Historical building completely restored. We stayed in the water front room. The view of the morning sunrise over the water was spectacular. Walk to coffee shops, restaurants and shopping. We even explored the night life with live music and artisan cocktails at the Cellar. Take in this secret gem in the Pacific Northwest.

This lovely small hotel right in the heart of Port Townsend. I walked to restaurants, the Saturday Farmers Market, and shops. The deck off the waterfront room was sunny and peaceful - perfect to enjoy morning coffee. Self check-in worked great, and the room was well stocked with everything I needed. Will definitely return when I'm in PT! Note that the hotel was beautifully renovated in 2018, so older reviews (especially ones about food from the now-closed restaurant below) don't reflect the current experience.

I recently stayed at the Belmont for a special reunion. I was blown away by the attention to detail in every aspect of this hotel. The bed was the MOST comfortable I've ever slept in (did not want to get out of it). the sheets were pure silky heaven and the views unparalleled!!!! 2 waters, juices and plastic wine glasses perfectly arranged in the fridge. 2 huge beautiful blueberry muffins graced the pressed glass plates with REAL forks for our morning delight and THANK YOU GOD for a Kurig versus a small old coffee maker! The place was SPOTLESS and beds perfectly made, bathrobes perfectly hung in the wardrobe. Slept like a baby with the French doors opening onto the porch with the beach below and sounds of the waves gently lapping the shore. Watched the ferry going by and the sunset from the bed. LIFE IS SURELY GOOD! I will be back and will tell everyone I know! THANK YOU for a little slice of heaven! I felt like a Queen and my family can't stop raving about your hotel! I hadn't even gotten to the convenience to shopping and whale watching all within the same block as the hotel! AHHHHH

Great service, awesome view with outdoor seating options on water, good menu options, food arrives quickly. Chowder and Bisque are delicious! The bread in the complimentary basket and the crab/artichoke toast bread were sub-par, but the crab mixture was delicious. I recommend sourcing breads from a tasty local baker to increase the quality.

This hotel was beautifully furnished and very clean. We stayed in a waterfront room with double french doors that opened up to a large balcony. Bring a bottle of wine and a good book (no TV) and enjoy the water views on the balcony! Great downtown location and super easy check in.
